At Laurel , we do everything in our power to make your education affordable. In fact, our Financial Aid experts actively search for grants, scholarships, and different programs within the community to find money for our students. We also have a net price calculator, a useful tool designed to help you determine the approximate cost of attending Laurel. Keep in mind that net costs can vary significantly, depending on the amount of money you borrow and other factors.

When you’re considering career training, it’s important to look beyond a school’s published tuition and understand what your education may actually cost after financial aid.

Two Laurel campuses are included on the U.S. Department of Education’s 2026 Lowest Net Price list for two-year, private for-profit institutions:

Laurel Technical Institute – Hermitage: Average net price of $6,914
Laurel Technical Institute – Uniontown: Average net price of $6,925

For comparison, the national average net price for institutions in this category is $23,471, according to the same U.S. Department of Education data.

What Is Net Price?

Net price is the average cost of attending a college after grants and scholarships are subtracted from the total cost of attendance. Because every student’s financial situation and eligibility for financial aid are different, your actual cost to attend Laurel may be higher or lower than the reported average.

That’s why Laurel encourages prospective students and families to look at their individual options. Our Financial Aid team can help eligible students understand available financial aid, navigate the application process and make more informed decisions about paying for career training.

PA Fostering Independence Tuition Waiver (FosterEd) Program

The FosterEd Program provides a waiver for tuition and mandatory fees charged by most postsecondary institutions located in the Commonwealth for youth who are or were in foster care.

This waiver applies only to charges that remain after all other gift aid (federal, state, and other scholarships or grants) have been applied to the student’s account.

This additional aid is offered through PHEAA. (Applying student must be a PA resident)

Grants

A grant is defined as financial aid in the form of a gift that is not repaid.

Federal Pell Grant

The Pell Grant Program is administered by the United States Department of Education for qualified students who wish to enroll at post-secondary educational institutions. Students receiving Pell grants must progress academically. Full-time and half-time undergraduate students with financial need (limited to US citizens and permanent residents) are eligible to apply for a Federal Pell Grant. Applicants need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and mail it or apply on-line at the FAFSA web site. Applications must be made after July 1st of the current year and no later than June 30th of the following year, and applications must be made each year. Awards vary yearly depending on financial need and federal funds available.

State Grants

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has money available to help residents finance college educations. To receive a state grant, students must enroll in an approved program with at least 6 credit hours a semester. Only two-year programs are eligible for state grants and applicants must be a PA resident.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants (SEOG)

Full-time and half-time students with financial need may apply to the Financial Aid Office at LBI for consideration of SEOG. Awards range from $1,000 to $4,000 per year depending on the applicant’s need, and students must apply each academic year. Applicants must also be citizens of the United States or permanent residents and must submit a state grant award letter and Pell Grant student aid report at the time of application for SEOG.

Loans

A loan is defined as money borrowed that must be repaid.

Federal Direct Stafford Loans

Students who demonstrate a need may receive loans through the cooperation of the federal government, student must be in an approved program and have at least 6 credits hours a semester.

Federal Direct Parent Loans for Undergraduate students (PLUS)

Parents of full-time and half-time students who are US citizens or permanent residents may apply to borrow the educational cost they’re incurring less other financial awards. Repayment of PLUS loans begins 60 days after receipt of the loan.

WV: Division Rehabilitation Services

The vocational rehabilitation program helps eligible individuals improve their ability to succeed in employment. DRS has specially trained rehabilitation counselors who assist clients with evaluating their skills and interests to obtain vocational success. Rehabilitation counselors work one-on-one with clients to develop a plan for employment that is based on their interests, needs and abilities. WV: Region IV Workforce, WIOA

Our WV campus has been approved for Attendance/Supportive Service Payments for any WIOA approved recipient with a WV residence. Please see your financial aid advisor for more information!

Trade Readjustment Allowance

Trade Readjustment Allowances are income support payments to individuals who have exhausted Unemployment Compensation and whose jobs were affected by foreign imports as determined by a certification of group coverage issued by the Department of Labor

PA: Office of Vocation Rehabilitation

PA: Career Link

Launched in July, 2012, PA CareerLink is part of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry’s initiative to transform the landscape of how job-seekers find family sustaining jobs and how employers find the skilled candidates that they need.

United Miner Workers of America

Current members of the UMWA, in good standing, their dependents and grandchildren are eligible to apply for the Lorin E. Kerr scholarship through the UMWA. The UMWA will award two scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year, each for $2,500. Each will be paid in equal installments at the beginning of each semester – September 2021 and January 2022 – as long as the winners have been accepted to a degree program at a qualified institution.
