Laurel Technical Institute (LTI) is pleased to announce that Elaine Allen has been named Program Director of Respiratory Therapy at the Sharon campus. In this position, Allen, a Greenville, PA resident, will be responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing the career school’s new associate degree program in respiratory care.

Ms. Allen is a registered respiratory therapist with credentials in neonatal and pediatric care, pulmonary function testing, and sleep medicine. Ms. Allen earned a B.A. from Thiel College and served as the college’s respiratory therapy program director until the program closed in 1998. She has been employed as a respiratory therapist and department manager by various hospitals and sleep laboratories. “I’m thrilled to be playing an active role in the RT [respiratory therapy] program development,” said Allen. “Our graduates will have marketable skills in an in-demand job market.”

“We started respiratory therapy because, with the help of our advisory committee of medical professional, we identified a need for respiratory therapists in northwestern Pennsylvania,” said Nancy Decker, LTI President. “Elaine brings a wealth of experience in respiratory education. We are glad to have her.”

The respiratory therapy program is new at Laurel Technical Institute and started its first class of students in September. The students are scheduled to graduate in May of 2011 with a specialized associate degree in respiratory care.
